Description

We cordially invite your participation in this dynamic event, which will gather leaders in the public Wi-Fi space to participate in general content sessions, multiple breakouts, and working groups. Key themes include defining a set of best practices for public Wi-Fi deployments, building public-private partnerships, and linking regional and municipal public Wi-Fi efforts. Be prepared to work hard – and contribute to outcomes that can play a role in shaping public Wi-Fi deployments everywhere. We anticipate approximately 60 attendees - including SuperCluster representatives and key stakeholders from local government, business, academia, and non-profits. Guided by the GCTC PWSC team's deep practical experience in deployment of public Wi-Fi networks, the conference will present a powerful opportunity for participants to learn and share information.

Joint Venture Silicon Valley (JVSV) has teamed with NIST, NTIA, the County of San Mateo, the City of San Leandro, the City of Schenectady, Ruckus Wireless, and Verizon Wireless to lead the GCTC Public Wi-Fi SuperCluster (PWSC) effort. Global City Teams Challenge is coordinated by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA), and US Ignite.

This event will explore how public Wi-Fi can help bridge the digital divide, support economic development, support IoT and Smart City applications, as well as deliver a high value, expected amenity for municipal residents and visitors.

The conference has two key objectives:

  • The GCTC Public Wi-Fi SuperCluster will draft a high-level blueprint of technical consideration and economic profiles for public Wi-Fi networks. The goal is for this blueprint to be utilized by cities around the world as a way to jumpstart their efforts.

  • Share information, strategies, best practices, case studies, and connect leaders.

A draft agenda and additional information will be posted in our Google Group - please join us online prior to the event.

Registration: Conference is free to attend. Registration is open to Global City Teams Challenge (GCTC) Public Wi-Fi SuperCluster participants, and by invitation to other key stakeholders. We're particularly interesting in getting registrations from municipal leaders with experience deploying public Wi-Fi, but also from municipalities who are actively considering deployments. We're eager to hear in-depth about your municipality's reasoning for deploying public Wi-Fi, and the benefits and challenges you experienced - or expect to experience. Please register ASAP as space is limited.

The conference will be hosted at Joint Venture Silicon Valley, conveniently located just a block away from the VTA's Convention Center Light Rail station, a short ride away from Diridon Station and Mineta San Jose International Airport. Team San Jose's visitor website www.sanjose.org includes information on hotels, restaurants, maps, transportation, and more.
